On December 12, 2024, at approximately 5:50 a.m., a four-vehicle collision occurred near the intersection of FM-917 and CR-613 in Johnson County. The crash began when a westbound Lexus attempted to pass a truck-tractor and trailer in a no-passing zone. Unable to complete the maneuver safely, the Lexus collided head-on with an oncoming pickup truck, triggering a chain reaction that involved a second pickup truck in the same lane.
Both lanes of FM-917 were closed until about 8:00 a.m. following the incident. The drivers of the Lexus and the first pickup were transported to Methodist Mansfield Medical Center with minor injuries. No major injuries or fatalities were reported.
