On Monday, December 2, 2024, Dallas police arrested 43-year-old Robert Weldon Fields for a violent Black Friday assault inside the Cityplace Target store on North Haskell Avenue. Fields is accused of stabbing 47-year-old Angel Ricardo Perez Luna in the neck with scissors in the store’s bathroom in what appears to have been an unprovoked attack.
According to the affidavit, Luna had been washing his hands when the assault occurred. A witness later told authorities that Fields was heard saying, "Today, I am going to commit a crime," shortly before the stabbing. Luna survived the attack after undergoing two surgeries.
Following the incident, Fields was spotted dancing near El Centro College in downtown Dallas. He was detained by police when he attempted to board a DART train without paying the fare. Upon his identification, authorities discovered Fields had outstanding warrants in Hurst.
During questioning, Fields denied involvement in the assault, stating, "If I had stabbed him, he would be dead." However, he reportedly added, "I was surprised that he survived," a statement documented in the police affidavit.
Fields has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and is being held on a $75,000 bond. The investigation remains ongoing.
