On Monday, October 28, 2024, Irving Police attempted a traffic stop on a silver 2024 Toyota RAV4, but the driver accelerated, leading officers on a high-speed chase. Four additional officers joined the pursuit, successfully stopping the vehicle in the 2900 block of N. Beltline Rd near W. Rochelle Rd.
During a search, officers discovered methamphetamine and an unrelated driver’s license in the vehicle. The driver, identified as 24-year-old Sonny Austin of Grapevine, was wanted by the U.S. Marshals for a probation violation related to a prior drug dealing conviction.
Austin was charged with Evading Arrest with a Vehicle and Possession of a Controlled Substance (methamphetamine) between 4 and 200 grams. His bond is set at $40,000; however, he remains in the Dallas County Jail under a U.S. Marshals Service hold.
