New Shoes and Financial Literacy Materials Distributed to All Students at Keyes Elementary School in Irving

In a collaborative effort, Samaritan’s Feet International and Truist Bank partnered with the Irving Schools Foundation to provide new shoes to every student at Keyes Elementary School in Irving. Along with the shoes, each student received a “Hope Tote” containing age-appropriate financial literacy materials and a personalized “hope note” for encouragement.

The event aimed to support students in low-to-moderate-income communities by addressing essential needs and promoting financial literacy. Volunteers from Truist Bank joined the event, interacting with students and helping them try on their new shoes. Many of the students, who come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, expressed excitement at receiving new shoes and meeting community professionals like bankers.

The non-profit Samaritan's Feet provided 800 pairs of shoes.  According to Keyes Elementary Principal Nancy Atkinson, Ed.D. said in a report by ICTN that the school is 90% economically disadvantaged.

"We’re incredibly thankful to be chosen for this opportunity," said Arkinson. "It’s a meaningful experience for our students, not only providing essentials but also introducing them to concepts of financial literacy that are rarely discussed at home."
