Dallas College has been acknowledged by Handshake for its collaborative efforts to enhance student support through career centers. Handshake, a platform utilized by over 1,500 higher education institutions, connects approximately 75% of U.S. college students with more than 950,000 employers actively seeking recruits.
The Handshake Career Spark Awards honor institutions excelling in key areas of student and employer engagement, as well as reporting and analytics. Dallas College received accolades specifically for its achievements in employer engagement and effective use of reporting and analytics.
Essence Smith, Handshake's Relationship Manager, stated, “Dallas College sets the bar high in how they look to stay innovative in all aspects of their work. As a large, complex institution, their team is always looking for ways to better use data in their work and ensure they are doing what is best for both their student and employer partners.”
Derek Soper, Associate Dean of Career Skills Development, Pathway Success, highlighted the collaborative effort involved, noting, “The journey of embedding and using the platform has truly been a cross-collaborative effort between Career and Transfer Skills Development and the Employer Resource Center. I am proud of both teams and others along the way that have made this happen.”
