Dallas Man Found Guilty in 2008 Sexual Assault of Drugged Woman

James Hunter McClure III

In a Dallas County courtroom, 59-year-old James Hunter McClure III was found Guilty of Sexual Assault.

In June 2008, the McClure sexually assaulted a victim while she was incapacitated. The victim and her friend were out drinking when they met the defendant. The victim testified that while out she must have been drugged by McClure  because she blacked out like she never had before. The victim and her friend went to McClure's apartment where her friend left her. The next morning, the victim woke up naked in bed with McClure and with lubricant on her. The victim went to get a sexual assault exam, but the kit was not tested at the time of the incident, and at that time, no one knew who the perpetrator was, leaving the case to go cold.

About a decade later, the sexual assault kit was tested, and DNA connected this case with another sexual assault incident involving two victims. SAKI Investigator Jon Wakefield was able to use information from both incidents to identify McClure as the perpetrator, and the DNA confirmed that he had sexually assaulted the victim.

McClure was sentenced to 7 years in prison probated for 10 years, a $10,000 fine and 180 days in jail as a condition of probation.

The Dallas County DA’s Office SAKI Team investigated the case.
