On December 1, 2023, Jose Lopez-Nunez, 32, was sentenced to 3 years in prison for his role in a serious collision that resulted in significant injuries to three individuals. The Dallas Police Department investigated the incident, which occurred when Lopez-Nunez crashed into a vehicle containing three people in the backseat.
Following the crash, Lopez-Nunez fled the scene with his 8.5-month pregnant wife and toddler. Eyewitnesses and surveillance footage placed him at the scene, along with his disabled vehicle. Despite having no prior criminal record, Lopez-Nunez’s request for probation was denied by the jury.
The prosecution was led by Gabriela Sanchez, with Nicole Heydari serving as the 2nd chair. DA Investigator John Davison and DA Paralegal Mildred Gibbs supported the case. The jury's verdict concluded with Lopez-Nunez being sentenced to 3 years in prison.
