DFW Adds 200,000 Residents, Population Nears 8.5 Million

North Texas’ population surged by approximately 200,000 residents over the past year, according to estimates approved by the NCTCOG Executive Board in June. This increase, which surpasses the previous year’s growth, brings the estimated population of the 16-county region to nearly 8.5 million. Rockwall County led the region with a 5.2% increase, followed by Ellis County at 4.7% and Collin County at 4.6%.

Godley (39.1%), Celina (30.9%), and Pilot Point (26.1%) were the fastest-growing cities by percentage. Fort Worth added nearly 27,000 residents, surpassing the 1 million milestone. Only Dallas, with an addition of 30,201 people, experienced a larger growth than Fort Worth. The population of the 12-county metropolitan planning area is now close to 8.3 million.
